Assisi is a spiritual pearl in the Umbria region.
The region is called “The heart of Italy” for its central position in the Peninsula.
The Italian nobel-prize winner Giosuè Carducci called it “Umbria Verde” (Green Umbria) and he was so right.
The name of Assisi is strictly connected with the name of St. Francis, the Patron Saint of Italy.
The sense of peace and smooth Beauty that is oozing all over Assisi can be perceived by everyone.
If you go there, you will surely benefit from the vast landscape full of olive trees, the gentle sun that caresses the kind hills and the beautiful rockish churches (and Roman ruins).
Therefore, Assisi is not only a destination for those catholics who want to discover the life of St. Francis; it is a place that can talk to everybody who has a open mind(&heart).
More than a soundtrack, during my trip to Assisi I was thinking of the “Cantico delle Creature” ( or Laudes Creaturarum): it is the most ancient poetry written in Italian by St. Francis himself.
Visiting Assisi I really understood the value of that poetry.
[…] Laudato si’, mi’ Signore, per sora nostra Matre Terra,
la quale ne sustenta et governa,
et produce diversi fructi con coloriti flori et herba […]
